My response to Sir

I have elected to study the bombing Dresden because it is hard to find books in Australia that talk about the bombing of Tokyo so if I focus Dresden and get as many books as I can, possibly from Glee Books. I am gonna look at the debate as to the validity of the raids.

Dresden

Hew Strachan argues in Strategic bombing and the Question of Civilian Casualties up to 1945 that "total war", "But between 1939 and 1945 total war acquired an additional meaning; it referred to the readiness to breach the principle of non-combatant  immunity, one of the keystones of just war theory." In other words he uses his outstanding depth of compassion to discern the fate of the innocent. Strachan then continues on with this style of lewd reasoning by stating that Arthur Harris' bombing campaign is strategically viable because it  held down men and materials at home instead of the Luftwaffe being in full force on the Eastern Front. He does overlook, however, that cratering of the various beaches of D-Day or the softening of 'Fortress Europe' would have saved countless lives in June especially at the rather bloody Omaha beach.

Change of Pace

I am officially sick of going to libraries and not finding anything on the bombing of Tokyo, so I have decided to

change my subject to the bombing of Dresden and whether or not it was ethical to bomb it. *frowny face*

A Source of Inspiration

On the way to school this morning a fellow extension student handed me two magazines called "History of the Second World War", volume 6 parts 32 and 55 (1968).

Part 32 was dedicated to RAF bombing and whether it is justified or not.

In Part 55 there is an article by John Vader titled "Fire Raids on Japan" and one by Fusako Sasaki called "Tokyo Fire Raids".

Finally watched the DVD that I procured from Penrith City Library.

"B-29's participated in the bombing of Tokyo"

WHAT!

How does that warrant a tag for information on the bombing of Tokyo in a library!

At least going to Penrith wasn't  complete waste though.

Picking a side

I have decided to go pro for the topic/question/argument, bombing civilian centres to destroy military manufacturing is a-okay! In the sense that it can bring a country to it's knees, that's why it worked in Vietnam (I'm kidding).

And here is a date that is important: 10th March 1945: (Operation Meetinghouse)
334 B-29's attack Tokyo, 250,000 + buildings destroyed, 100, 000 people die, 25% of Tokyo burnt, minimal damage to Tokyo's heavy industry.

If you can't bomb the army, bomb the workers.

Trip to Penrith Library

There was next to nothing going in my favour at the library on Saturday, though afterwards was a different matter.

Going to the library was almost as pointless since a British man thought, "lets invade the Dardanelles, that will help."

I managed to get a DVD but unfortunately may have forgot to unlock it.
